Mini Hoops & Aussie Hoops

Mini Hoops
• Participants aged between 5-10. • Coaches and players will have access to all SA Country resources for development and engagement purposes. • Cost and session duration can be decided by the program head coach or organiser. • All programs must be registered with SA Country through the Basketball Connect program. • Associations are strongly encouraged to run a Mini Hoops program as it is a fun and enjoyable way for players and coaches to participate in basketball whilst receiving direct guidance and support from SA Country.

Aussie Hoops
Aussie Hoops is Basketball Australia’s official introductory junior game development program for 5-10 year olds and their families. The Aussie Hoops program provides both boys and girls a safe and enjoyable first basketball experience. In addition to promoting healthy and active lifestyles, the program serves as a platform for social development and inclusion – fostering stronger and more vibrant communities and individuals.

Objectives of Aussie Hoops
• Children learn the fundamental motor skills for future physical activity and sports participation. • Children learn the basics of fitness conditioning, muscle management, well-being, health and nutrition. • Respect for others as well as social, team work and cooperation skills are developed. • Physically active children are more attentive, have a more efficient memory and better problem solving skills. • Children are coached and encouraged by accredited and periodically assessed coaches. • Children are exposed to the Australian Basketball pathway from Vicinity Centres Aussie Hoops through to the elite level. • Vicinity Centres Aussie Hoops provides a structured and federally endorsed program for children to participate in over a five year period.
