High Performance Programs

SA Country Basketball has re-engineered its High Performance & Development programs in response to the current landscape to provide services that better cater to its athletes as well as provide a complete athlete pathway from grassroots development through to high performance representation. The first phase involved re-engineering the current Emerging Athlete Development Program (EADP) from a team preparation program to a progressive SA Country delivered individual athlete development program focused on the identification and development of SA Country athletes and coaches that possess the potential to play/coach at the State Team level. The second phase involved rebranding the Association delivered portion of the EADP to the Regional Development Program (RDP), a standalone separate program that is Association owned and delivered, and SA Country supported. Associations have the autonomy to identify and select athletes and coaches that possess the desire and potential to progress their skills and basketball IQ to a level where they may be selected to an SA Country Program in the future, as well as support current SA Country identified athletes. The third and final phase of the re-engineering the SA Country Basketball programs involves the development of our U13 and U14 athletes and emerging coaches through the Future Development Program. SA Country recognises that the U13 & U14 Age Groups sits firmly in the development space and as such demands a separate age and stage appropriate program that is focussed on a large pool of athletes representing the “wide end of the funnel” for potential future entry into the EADP.
